Dr Chinyere Shirley Ayonmike

Skills Mismatch Between TVET Institutions and Industries

Dr Ayonmike is a Nigerian TVET Expert and a Senior Lecturer at Delta State University, in Abraka, Nigeria. She has special interest in Industrial Technology Education research, with over 30 research works published in national and international journals. She is a member of many academic and professional bodies, with distinctive contributions. As the current IVETA Regional Vice President for Eastern and Western Africa, she has won the 2018 IVETA Joel Magisos Exceptional Service Award. She has presented papers at many national and international TVET conferences. She is the Music Director and Conductor of the Warri Choral Society (WCS), a Classical Music ensemble.

Dr Leonard Busuttil

Dr Busuttil is the Head of the Technology and Entrepreneurship Education Department in the Faculty of Education at the University of Malta. He has a PhD from the University of Sheffield and will be co-presenting with Dr Lorraine Portelli and Ms Therese Camilleri.

Ms Camilleri is the Coordinator for Vocational Education at the Department of Technology and Entrepreneurship Education (University of Malta). She is currently a PhD candidate and will be co-presenting a paper with Dr Leonard Busuttil and Dr Lorraine Portelli.

Professor Patrick Ekezie Egbule

Bridging The Agricultural Industry – College Divide

Patrick is Professor of Vocational and Workforce Education at Delta State University, Nigeria since 1994. He has published widely in both national and international journals and is the editor/reviewer of the Nigeria Vocational Association Journal (NVAJ) and the Association of Agricultural Educator’s Association of Nigeria Journal (AEANJ). He has authored several books. He has chaired several course accreditation teams for the National Universities Commission (NUC), and consulted for the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on Agriculture and Rural Development. He was President of the NVA (now Association of Vocational and Technical Educators of Nigeria (AVTEN)) between 2012 and 2017.

Dr Joseph Falzon

Industry 4.0 and the Skills of Transformation

Architect, senior lecturer and researcher in policy development and applied innovative strategies for the built environment, Dr Falzon obtained his Ph.D from University of Manchester and professional accreditation in Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED, U.S.). He is a former Member of Parliament and member of Parliamentary Assembly of Council of Europe. Chaired international committees and collaborated reports with OECD, UNESCO and Europa Nostra.

Dr Julie Furst-Bowe

Career Pathways – Meeting the Needs of Students and Employers

Dr. Furst-Bowe is the Academic Vice President at Chippewa Valley Technical College, Wisconsin Technical College System. Julie holds a doctorate in Work, Family and Community Education from the University of Minnesota. Prior to her current position, Julie served as Vice Chancellor and Provost at the University of Wisconsin-Stout and Chancellor at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. Prof Suzanne Gatt

A Case Study of Permeability between VET and Tertiary Education

Dr Gatt is Associate Professor and Department Head at the Faculty of Education at the University of Malta and an expert on the European integration of education. She has done work in VET at national level preparing policy documents for the Malta Qualifications Council on qualifications frameworks, VET qualifications, validation of informal and non-formal education (including the 4th edition of the Referencing Report for Malta). Prof. Gatt has been involved in international research projects by CEDEFOP as the national researcher for Apprenticeship country review, and other projects focusing on VET qualifications at levels 3 and 4 of the EQF, key competences in VET, and apprenticeships. She is also a member of the ECVET secretariat.

Dr Maria Gruber

Integrated Vocational Education – Theory and Practice

Dr. Gruber is the coordinator of the innovative programme, ‘Master of Education for Vocational Education and Training’ and senior researcher at Technical University of Munich, School of Education. She focuses on migration, linguistic and cultural diversity in vocational education and training, diversity as a basic issue as well as teacher training in these fields and research of teaching and learning.

Serumu Igberadja

The Role of Stakeholders in Building a Quality TVET

Igberadja is the director of TVET Nexus Exchange, a youth leader and civil society advocate from Sapele, Nigeria. He has special interest in good governance, non-violence, community development, quality education, vocational skills development, sustainable livelihood, and economic development. He is an independent researcher with publications in academic journals, and the Correspondence Officer to the IVETA Regional Vice-President for Eastern & Western Africa. He is also the Coordinator of the Lucubrate Project in Nigeria.

Sally Marshall

The Role Governments Should Play with Regard to National TVET Development

Sally is a business coach, author, publisher and speaker, focussing on helping business owners with their strategy, planning and performance. Sally worked for 25 years in the House of Commons where she was involved with business plans, annual reviews, finance and training. The skills she learned during this time have given her the knowledge and experience to work on her own businesses as well as supporting others. Her books are based on the basic knowledge required to set up a business plan and work ON your business rather than IN it. The magazine, Steer Your Business, brings together knowledge from business owners all around the world.

Dr. Davison Mupinga

Essential Employability Skills as Perceived by Employers

Dr. Mupinga is an associate professor in career and technical teacher education at Kent State University, Ohio, USA. His research interests are in workforce development, integration of technology into technical and vocational education, and multi-cultural education. He has conducted professional development workshops for vocational teachers and trainers in Zimbabwe, Kenya, Lesotho, South Africa and the United States of America. He has published numerous papers on workforce development issues, and presented at national and international conferences.

Dato’ Sri Ganes Palaniapan

Dato’ Sri Ganes’s current positions include being the CEO of the SG Education Group, Director of the Penang state government’s STEM initiative and the Director of Academic and Talents, Malaysia loT Association. His awards include the IVETA President’s Award, Most Influential Entrepreneur Award. Bett, UK Asia Awards 2017, Finalist. Since 1999, he has built five technical and vocational colleges, which provide job-specific training and alternative education options, rerouting those who are not set on tertiary education. He prepares and develops students academically and technically, as well as provides solutions from enrolment to employment. Currently he is working to enhance Malaysia’s national workforce with skillsets that future-proof them.

Dr Lorraine Portelli

Dr Portelli is a lecturer and coordinator of Fashion, Textiles and Interior Studies at the Department of Health, Physical Education and Computer Studies at the University of Malta. She has a PhD from the University of Brighton, and will be co-presenting with Dr Leonard Busuttil and Ms Therese Camilleri.

Rumyana Shalamanova

Empowering and changing the mindset of VET teachers

Rumyana is the Chairperson of Know and Can Association. She has about 30 years’ experience as a teacher and trainer in formal and non-formal education. Rumyana has two Master Degrees – in Chemical engineering and Pedagogy. She is a certified trainer in soft skills, creative thinking and Forum Theater. She has attended numerous educational events at national and international levels.

Dr Brenden Tempest-Mogg

A Few Words of Introduction

Dr. Tempest-Mogg is a respected educator, lecturer, keynote speaker, workshop facilitator and personal mentor. He is a consultant on quality assurance, accreditation, study abroad, international education, vocational and technical training, further education, higher education, online degrees,and education administration. Dr Brenden is a clinical counsellor and psychotherapist. He is an authority on Prior Learning Assessment, Lifelong Learning and Portfolio Competencies Assessment. He was Vice-President for Europe for IVETA (2016-2018), and is currently an Executive Director for IVETA. He is Ambassador for the International Council for Ledership, Governance, Entrpreneurship and Management (ICLGEM).
